Learning with postcards: Argentina

Hola!

South America always seem interesting and nice to me. Going any countries there is one of my dream. Brazil, Peru or Argentina? I need just much money for this trip! Anyway on this post, I’ll write about Argentina. I’ve got two beautiful postcards from there. My first expression was ”OMG from Argentina”. This country is really far away from my country, Turkey and it took about 2 months to get them. Such a long time, isn’t it?

Both of postcards show places in capital of Argentina Buenos Aires. Buenos Aires is the largest city of Argentina and second-largest metropolitan area in South America. The population of it is more than 13 million.  On the first postcard you’ll see 7 different churches’ dome. The one on the top and right is inspired from Antoni Gaudí, and in the top of that dome it’s written that ”There are no impossible dreams.”

On the second postcard you’ll see many different photos from Buenos Aires. You can see Tango figures on it. Tango is natural border between Argentina and Uruguay. This is traditional for both of these countries. One day, I’ll go there and see these great places in real. Hope to do it soon! :’)

Learning with Postcards: Algeria

Postcards from Algeria here! Labib sent these postcards to me. Algeria is a country in North Africa on the Mediterranean coast. Its capital and most populous city is Algiers. Population of Algeria is more than 39,5 million. Its official language is Arabic, but French is also common in this country because it was a France’s colonial. Currency of Algeria is Algerian dinar, and Algeria is classified as an upper middle income country by the World Bank. Anyway, on the first postcard, you’ll see a view of Algerian bazaar. Shopping at a bazaar is quite popular here like other Arabic countries. Algeria seems a quite interesting country when you compare it to an European country. This postcards gives many clues about Arabic culture. You can notice that buildings aren’t high and have own style.

On the second postcard, you’ll see a woman preparing handmade bread in the traditional oven. This kind of oven is also used in Anatolia, i saw it in my country.

Besides, the clothes of this woman can seem interesting if you’re from Europe. You can see these kind of clothes in other Arabic countries,too. Labib mentioned that the bread is really delicious with olive oil. Hope to try it one day! I love bread :’)

Learning with postcards: Andorra

Hola!

This is my second ”Learning with postcards” post. I decided to write these posts in alphabetical order. Anyway Ana sent this postcard to me from Andorra. Yeah Andorra? To be honest, i didn’t know anything about this country before getting this postcard. On this postcard you’ll see a map of touristic places in Andorra. The capital of Andorra is Andorra la Vella, it’s located in west of the country. About 23 thousand people live in this city and it’s the biggest city of Andorra. There is interesting info about this country. Andorra has traditionally had one of the world’s lowest unemployment rates. Let’s go to Andorra for a job!! Besides the people who live in Andorra have one of the highest life expectancies in the world. Another reason to go and live there, right?

Andorra has been effected Spain and France mostly. If you look carefully the postcard, you can see French flag on right. Official language is Catalan, but you can come across people who speak French, Spanish or Portuguese. Besides, Andorra is not a member of the European Union, but the euro is official currency.

People call Andorra ”Principat d’Andorra” in Catalan. The symbol on the stamp is Coat of arms of Andorra. It has existed for centuries. It incorporates the arms of the Bishop of Urgell and the Count of Foix, the two princes of Andorra.

Learning with Postcards: Albania

Ç’kemi! 

As you know, I have been collecting postcards from different countries for almost 2 years. After getting many postcards, i created this blog and now that i decided to share these postcards in a different way. Postcards are really informative and i learn new things when i get a postcard every time. Now I’ll share it with you!

These postcards were sent by Eleni from Albania. Albania is a small country in Southeastern Europe. It’s population 3 million. Its capital and biggest city is Tirina. Both of these postcards show a view from Tirina. To see postcards in more detail, click here!

You can see ”Vallet shqiptare” traditional Albanian dance.  This dance is mostly played by women, and it has different styles. Besides you can see Shqipëria word on the stamp and it means Albania in Albanian. Finally, you may notice Lekë (Lek) is currency of Albania.
